Friday July 25 – Help my unbelief

2014 Summer of Prayer

Posted on: July 25, 2014

Come and worship
Merciful God, whose compassion is infinite and inexhaustible. In mercy He gave us Jesus
and took the judgment that was due us. He now works and waits for all people to turn to
Him, not wanting any to be lost.

Meditate on His Word Mark 9:14-27, 2 Peter 3:9, Luke 18:1-8
Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and
not give up… Luke 18:1-8

Many of us have someone in our lives that we secretly think, “If the Lord could save…
He could save anyone.” Meaning, we really don’t believe that the Lord can save that
person. It is common to struggle to believe that the Lord can save the most hard-headed,
and closed-off among our friends and family. It’s easy to make room for unbelief when it
appears that nothing ever changes. This is why the story of the persistent widow, the little
lady who kept coming to the unjust judge, is amazing. The judge grew concerned that
he’d better respond to her or she would wear him out! I have to ask myself, do I come to
the Lord- who by the way, is merciful and ready to receive me- and attempt to wear Him
out with my persistence in asking Him to draw my unsaved loved ones to Himself? Have
I believed in His power for them despite what I see with my eyes? Truthfully, I have not.
Even knowing that His heart is one of love for them and His desire is for their salvation, I
have not kept on asking over months and years- with persistence.
I cry out with the man; “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!”

Ask God
Confess to the Lord any unbelief you have allowed into your heart concerning your family
or friends who are far from Him.
Ask Him to renew your love for them and your belief in His power to make them new.
Starting today, recommit to praying for them to meet Jesus.
Ask the Lord to give you strength and persistence in your prayers and service to them,
ask Him to frequently give you a renewed perspective and opportunities to be authentic
and vulnerable.
