Ladies Giving Toys: Generosity Grant In Action
It’s mid-february, and our current sermon series, “Love to the End” has us examine what it means to love generously like Jesus did. Our Ladies Generosity Group has a great story from this last Christmas that exemplifies this. They were able to serve a marginalized and vulnerable group of women and children right here in the community through the Step-By-Step program at Northview Community Church.
Patti Arthur gave us some more information about the event and the wonderful experience they had:
Each year there is a Christmas celebration that the clients and children are invited to. They receive a turkey dinner and lots of entertainment for their children throughout the evening including photos with Santa. For some of these families, this is the only photo they have of their family. Each family also receives a bag of groceries/gift card to a grocery store at the end of the evening. Part of this celebration is the “Toy Shop.” This is where the parent can come in and choose something special for their children.
For the past three years, our generosity group has served in the toy shop. Imprint has graciously gifted our group through our generosity fund to purchase toys for the toy shop. So a big shout out to our Imprint family! We’ve heard hardship stories from moms just trying to keep their heads above water while raising little ones. Some of these moms come back to serve in this ministry as they are so appreciative of the resources they received. These clients may see our faces who are serving them, but each of you plays a huge role in your giving.
“We may only see these women once a year, but we can pray for them throughout the year.”
– Patti Arthur
The first sermon of our Love to the End series challenged us to be vulnerable by accepting Jesus’ love, then go out and show love through service.
This sounds great in theory, but in practice, it means sacrificing part of yourself for the good of another person. This sacrifice goes beyond resources like time and money. Rather, it asks us to let down our walls and connect with people right where they’re at. The Ladies Generosity Group were able to put these words into action.
