If you ask anyone starting out their marriage, “What do you hope your marriage would look like in 10, 25 or even 50 years?”, I doubt very many of them would respond saying, “I just want to grit my teeth and go through the motions until one of us dies.” That goes against the very idea of what we think marriage is, and yet so many marriages look like that; lacking love and intentionality.
In his book “Cherish”, Gary Thomas talks about how to care for, encourage and appreciate your spouse.
“Marriages can and will not only survive but thrive when husbands and wives learn to cherish one another.”
What if we, as a community of believers, reflected Christ’s love for us in the way we treated our spouses? What if we were known for our enthusiastic, energetic, and committed love for one another, starting with our marriage, flowing into our parenting, and continuing into our friendships and our community?
I can’t wait for the Marriage Conference next Friday, the 17th because I really want to cherish my wife, Karaline. I want the people around us, especially our kids, to get a picture of what committed love looks like based on how we treat each other. I want someone to understand Christ’s love just a bit more because of the example that believers have set in loving one another. I’m excited for March 17th and I hope you are too!
