Saturday August 2 – Assignment – Adopt a local business

2014 Summer of Prayer

Posted on: August 2, 2014

Come and worship

Lord, I believe in you. You are my Savior and Lord. Show me how to demonstrate my faith. Open my blind eyes to opportunities to love others in your name. Remove favoritism and prejudice from my heart. Fill me with your Spirit of love and care for others.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35b

I have spoken to many restaurant owners that dread Sunday’s around noon as church services let out. Their claim is that tips decrease and complaints increase. Whether there is factual data that backs this up or not remains to be seen but it’s a perception problem. Their perception is that some Christians are “frugal penny-pinchers”, as I have been
told, giving less than the normal gratuity. What if Sundays became the day that tips were greater than any other day of the week? The Lord has freely given to us and brings us into a place of living generously out of desire not duty.

James 2:14-26. John 15:11-12, Acts 20:35

Adopt a small business in your community and become a regular. This is obviously a longer commitment than a single Saturday but there’s no time than now to start! Find out everything you can about the business, how long they have been in business, learn the names of the employees there, visit their social networking sties and “follow” them to help promote them. Introduce yourself to the owner, call people by their name whenever you see them. Tip generously.
