Saturday August 9 – Assignment – Reflect
Come and worship
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 7:9
God is faithful and He fulfills His promises to us. He appreciates our baby steps of faith, but as we grow he expects more than baby steps. Several years ago there was a movie called ‘What About Bob’ about a man with all sorts of problems and fears in his life. He went through multiple therapists over a period of time until one reluctantly decided to take on his fears with a newly written book called ‘Baby Steps’, prompting the reader to take one step at a time, one day at a time, until they were beyond what it was they were afraid of. When we doubt in the power of God, we aren’t trusting. When we’re doubting and not trusting, we fear. God is faithful, as long as we keep our eyes on Him and trust.
“Christianity without the living Christ is inevitably Christianity without discipleship; 7 Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.” Deitrich Bonhoeffer
James 3:1-18, Matthew 14:22-33
Today is a day for self-reflection. Read over Matthew 14:22-33 and look at the areas
of your life where you doubt Jesus. It may no be something that is so glaring that it
will stand out right away. You might find it helpful to ask a spouse or a close friend that knows you well and will be honest with you. Ask yourself why you doubt? Ask the Lord to strengthen your faith and trust in Him.
