Tuesday August 19 – Go, send or disobey

2014 Summer of Prayer

Posted on: August 18, 2014

Come and worship

Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Psalm 105:1-3

Meditate on His Word Matthew 10:1-15
“These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Matthew 10:5-6

“Go, send, or disobey.” – John Piper 9

The King empowered the twelve apostles to go and preach the good news. As he did so, he told them to stay amongst the people that they knew, the Israelites, in the culture they were familiar with, knowing that the message would be received by some and rejected
by others. Jesus goes on in verse 16 to say that he was sending them out as sheep among the wolves and that persecution was likely. I often times wonder what the apostles said amongst themselves, what they were thinking. Did they doubt or second guess themselves and their ability? Does the fear of persecution for being a witness for Christ prevent you from telling others about Jesus?

Reflect and give thanks

Give thanks that the Lord is our judge and not man and we should fear the Lord more as He has ultimate control over our eternal life. Jesus said in Matthew 10:32 that if we acknowledge Him before men that He would acknowledge us before our Father in heaven.

Ask God

Ask God to remove fear in being a witness for Christ and that you would have the knowledge of the gospel in order to tell others. Ask God what His will is for your life…is it to go or to send? If you are not doing either, repent and ask God what He would have for you.
