The Gospel

Jul 4, 2024

We use the word "Gospel" all the time in churches. So... what exactly is it? Listen in as McGregor, Suzanne, and Rex chat through the Gospel of scripture.

We reference a lot of the Bible in this episode, so as promised, here is a list of verses:

Matthew 4:17

Mark 1:15

Luke 4:43

John 3

Acts 1:3

Genesis 1-3

Exodus 15,

Exodus 1-24: God becomes king (first used in Exod 15:18) when (1) he confronts evil and (2) forms a redeemed people, (3) who are then invited to live under the king’s reign in a covenant relationship.

2 Samuel 7

Psalms 2, 72, 93-100

Isaiah (chs. 1-2, 9, 11, 52, 65-66),

Daniel (chs. 2 and 7).

The word “kingdom” refers to an activity (“God’s reign” over a people: Daniel 4:3, 34), and then to a covenant people in a specific place (“God’s kingdom” = God’s people under his rule: Psalm 145:9-13).

Revelation 11:15 - Heavenly messengers announce the good news of the arrival of New Creation - when God’s Kingdom comes in its entirety.

Revelation 12:10 - The Announcement of Victory over Evil

Acts 2:14-47 - Saving Story of Jesus, framed by the Hebrew Scriptures.
